Together Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit recently had its online premiere on Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like conventional physical horror, but within Together resides a profound examination about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the two stars infuse a particular energy to their roles, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The story begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the countryside for Millie’s job. A commonly used story element, sure, but that’s mostly where the cliches cease. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim tumble into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building fright fest, blending elements of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). The director orchestrates these parts expertly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He fears the notion of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie avoids making Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters confront the kind of problems that come with most partnerships over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for staying single. Conversely, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your significant other and state, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu now.
