Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.
Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since that period of the previous year.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
His defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced service.
He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.
The opponent rescued four early break points in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
